White-tailed kite

This is an adult white-tailed kite. These birds are somewhat common in the western US but they are extremely skittish and difficult to photograph. A long lens and patience is often a must to get anything.


shot with D5 and 600 E FL + TC-14E III ISO 640 1/4000 sec (strong wind) f/5.6 hand held and processed with C1P. Hope you like it

Beautiful topside view! Can't beat that eye contact or background! I might add a couple points of black; you have plenty of shoulder detail to spare and I think it bit more contrast would help.

Love the complementary BG tones. Bird detail is as expected from you. Don't know the bird to comment on the black except to say that in different light some black birds look decidedly un-black.
