Geoffrey spotted the female as we drove along the rough track of the Langanes Peninsula. We grabbed our gear and very soon spotted the male, slowly working his way downslope away from us. We quickly circled around to get in front of him, walking/running while careful not to twist an ankle in the lumpy tundra, and finally got to a good position. He was part-way into his summer molt, while the female was completely in her summer brown plumage. I was pleased to get the feet in this frame. I would have liked a bit more room at the bottom but a large oof rock was just beneath my crop line. One of my target birds on this trip.
Beautiful Bill love the moss and lichens shows the environment well. I think you mentioned biggest critique I have is more room at the bottom of the frame. I actually like the changing molt. TFS
Wonderful capture of this beauty, Bill. Congratulations on capturing this image being one of your target birds. Love his pose with good eye contact. Also like the molting showing some of the color pattern beneath.
Nice view of this male. Glad you caught one of your target birds. Could see the bird more to the left and more room below but you addressed that already.
