Here's another one from earlier in the week. We usually see these guys hunkered down, so we forget how long their neck is when it's extended!
I dread the day when I'm too old to get super low for shots like this.
Canon 600mm f/4 IS II + 1.4x III on EOS 1DX Mark II
1/2000 at f/5.6, ISO 400, handheld on stomach with elbows in water.
Processed in LR CC without trickery
Wow, check out that psychedelic eye! My type of low angle, and I too dread the day I cannot do it anymore - perhaps that will be when I buy a right-angle viewer. Sharp, well exposed, good comp. Great texture on the bill. Lots to like here!
Neat-oh! I fondly remember the days when I was able to get flat down on the ground easily :)
with love, artie

If these are anything like 'our' grebes then full marks for fieldcraft. Either way its a beautifully timed shot with great details - just wondering if it needs a slight CCW rotation based on the water at the base of the neck
Definitely the Loch Ness Monster, I seen him last week on Loch Ness and it looked just like this ...Very nice....I like the crop and the good details. BG blends well. The eye is the perfect 'centre piece'
