Like this a lot, John because of the body and head turn, and calling pose. So used to seeing them searching for morals to dine on as they walk down a trunk of a tree.

Did you crop the image with a pen? Just joking (check your typo ). I have not seen many images of this species with the bill open, was it being a bit territorial towards another individual? Good background, and just enough decorations on the perch to make it interesting.

The open beak is nice, rare in photos, but the pose is not great...
    Perch and BG is nice.

Hi John, the bird looks angry. For a big crop I think the IQ held up well. Interesting perch, pure background, all works well together. Thank you for sharing.

A fine shot John, the IQ still looks pretty good, I like the unusual pose.

We have nuthatches on our feeder a lot, but I don't think I've seen this bird open it's mouth, nice timing!

Fixed typo. Yes was being territorial to another bird that kept swooping in for seeds.

Really strong frame, John. I really like everything about this, it's a perfectly executed set-up. Calling pose is really money. I would have pushed up the ISO and closed down a bit for extra DOF, but that's mostly a minor critique after the fact.

I like this John great capture looks real. Sometimes we get hung up on perfect head angle. Instead of a natural look IMO.
