Photographed a couple of weeks ago. For a few years now I have photographed along some hydro cuts, and this has proved to be great for forest songbird opportunities. This was taken in one such spot.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/9, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, almost FF, eye work. Audio used.

Lovely capture with just a slight head turn and slightly open beak. Beautiful BG and leaves. We have also found them along power line cuts in years past.

Beautifully captured, Daniel. Like the open beak pose, and great perch. Very nice background. Funny, a few days ago I found two CSWA not far from me off a trail in a hydro cut.

Daniel, this is gorgeous. Exposure, detail, light, and composition are fantastic. Love the yellow cap, a real winning image.

Hi Dan, composition is perfect, as expected well balanced and the foliage here just adds, all set off on a killer backdrop. The eye works is also nicely balanced with the overall ambient light, did you add the catchlight? Good techs, nice amount of SS/DoF.

    Thanks guys!

Steve, the catchlight is all natural. I did my usual darkening of the pupil and lightening of the iris though.

Fine, no worries Dan, just interested. The adjustment is perfect, just the right amount conveying a natural look, as often the subtlety is gone and highlights manipulation.
