    Default Eastern Phoebe.

One of the first "songbirds" to return in early spring, before the warblers and all the other colourful cast of of characters come in to steal the spotlight. Such a calm and peaceful bird to observe. Contrary to many of my songbird images, this was not a setup. I noticed a bit of red creeping in when composing through the viewfinder, so I moved over to include much more of it in the background.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, small crop for comp, eye work which include my usual darkening of the pupil.

Nice pose, nice perch, nice background. Detail looks great here. I have been seeing some warblers lately.

Great detail on the bird and the BG is a beautifully different shade. I also see some funny stuff going on at frame's top, so it might be worth smoothing those out since the shot is otherwise so nice. These were
always the first migrants to return in the spring when I lived in the NE US.

Thanks guys! The stuff at the top are oof branches. I can certainly blur them out, but I thought they were a neat element.

    WOW! I just love this.
The BG colors are to die for. I am a sucker for color in photography.
Comp is perfect, IQ on bird is spot on.
Always a plus to have a diagonal perch in a crop like this.
One of my favorites of yours,
    Gail
PS I quite like the branches at the top of the frame.

I really like the color palette here and the details and composition are great. The eye looks really good too. No nits from me on this one, wish it was mine. TFS

Hi Daniel. Lovely shot. The bird looks so much like the male Red-backed Fairy wrens we have here in Brisbane, except that the beak is a little lighter. I also like the background. Great clarity for hand-held considering the focal length. Cheers.
