Hi folks i will also try to throw a backlit image into the mix ....
Image taken on the way back to the main island , taken on the run so to speak, to get the last ferry .
Always tricky to get the right settings as we all know , how much detail to keep in the darks ? Well no right answer from my POV ...just matter of taste .
So here you go ...what do you think ?
Canon EOS 1Dx II
EF 200 - 400 IS L with TC engaged ( 467 mm )
HH
F 6,3 ; Iso 1000 ; 1/2500 sec
Processed with C1 and PS CC 2018 ; slight crop
Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous posting .
Hi Andreas - I think the amount of detail works. For me the decision is often made on an image by image basis or I might process different versions of the same image to see what I prefer. The backlit whiskers and the raised flipper with visible nails really takes this image up a level. Glad you stopped for the shot before the ferry.
Hi Andreas, like the rim light, perhaps as an option get some more 'warmth' into it to highlight the capture??? I also like the roll back look, but with the elevated flipper being quite 'dominant' (as it's inline with the head) here, I would have liked it to have been more in focus. Based on some of the higher ISOI images you have posted, the 'critical' sharpness looks a bit off IMHO.
Thanks Rachel and Steve for your feedback ...much appreciated .
Yeah i agree that it is always difficult to find a balance in this kinda shot .... i liked this version the most Rachel .
Steve you might be right with the warmth ... check the RP ... i think it is a bit more on the " friendly " site . Thanks for you input . Not sure about the critical sharpness ....but wonder what you think of this one . Changed a tiny bit ....back to " normal " .
I think your seal shots keep getting better Andreas even though this one is quite different. The pose here and the light really make this. I like the raised flipper and the rolled over look towards you with the backlit whiskers. Repost looks more with the warmer light at that time of day but you were there and would know best. Both original and repost are fine.
Hi Andreas -- This is a fantastic image. loved the details and the backlit whiskers and paw . You are currently on another level with your seal images. They have been an absolute treat to watch , please keep them coming .
The backlit flipper wave and whiskers make for a fine backlit subject here Andreas, and totally agree with you on shadow detail being very subjective, but think this look pretty good to me and your RP also has taken this up a step.
