Sometime this past Spring I posted an image of this Reddish Egret, "Big Red", landing at the North Beach Lagoon, Fort DeSoto, just at sunset. This is several frames later in the same sequence. If the forecasts are right, by this evening all of Fort DeSoto, and most of the islands and peninsulas off Southwest Florida could be buried under 10 feet of water from Hurricane Irma's storm surge. My best wishes go out to Big Red, and all of the avian and human populations that are getting lashed by this huge storm.
Makes me very jealous Bill. All around perfect. The other frame with the raised wings was I guess a bit better but this is still fantastic. Must get there for a few days and do some shooting. This will be all the motivation I need.
Great light and cool pose. I've thought of Ft. Desoto as well, perhaps it will create new lagoons but first and foremost hoping everyone will be/are safe!
This is another great image from the original you posted a few months ago. The light is beautiful and I love the outstretched wings.
A lovely image but not as nice as the first one- it will be hard to better that first image.
I spent a bit of time this AM trying to see if any pics or comments have been posted about Fort DeSoto but so far I found nothing.
Fingers crossed the area comes out better than before. As Daniel says, we may get some new lagoons.

Thank you all. Yes, I also liked the other one better of course. This was just an excuse to put in a word on Ft. Desoto. From what I understand, that part of the Gulf Coast was spared the worst of it and didn't get the huge storm surge that had been predicted earlier. Our friends on Sanibel, further south, are still without power and water but no major flooding.
