    Default Scrub Hare

Well, I thought I would revisit and chime in with this old (10 years ago) image, in part due to all the Hare images posted by Stu, Keith & Jon. OK the light wasn't as dramatic, but this is where I feel you have the artistic licence to push things and to use light. An impressive 10mp camera then, wow!!!!

Thanks to those who posted or viewed the previous thread.

    Subject: Scrub Hare (Lepus saxatilis)
    Location: Kenya
    Camera: Canon 1D MKIII
Lens: 500f/4 MKI with 1.4x HH
    Exposure: 1/640s at f/5.6 ISO400
Original format: Portrait, slight crop from bottom, almost FF width
    Processed via: LRCC & PSCC2017

Note: The subject is fully wild and completely unconstrained. Besides the potential impact of my presence, nothing has been done to intentionally alter or affect the ongoing behavior of the subject and, of course, there has been no use of any form of bait or other form of wildlife attractants (including vocalisations) in the capture of this image.

Hi Steve -- Superbly done , I just loved the details here and that EYE , looks like a Gem and those ears have some much to look at . Great field work and I feel apart from the equipment you had at that time compared to your current equipment , one thing that really comes into play is the post processing, one cannot produce great results if lacking in either of the department . I just loved this image .

That blackish area on the URC gives a vignetting kind of feel which is actually helping in popping up the subject .

This is a beauty, Steve. Stunning colours and tonality. Love the inquisitive pose. And the eye. Super framing. A bit of a "studio" feel to this frame?
Stu will love this I am sure, so looking forward to his comments
Thank you so much for another lesson on detail, Sir

Really fabulous image, Steve. The ears, eye, pose and background really make this stand out. I like the amount in focus in this shot too - just perfect from where I sit. It really does have a studio-shot feel to it. Framing and composition hard to better as well. Thanks so much for sharing.

Fantastic shot Steve. Amazing clarity with ton of detail coming through especially in the ears & eye. Super head angle and DOF with dark BG. Nice one

Hi Steve - Beautiful light coming through the ears. You may recall my obsession of trying to get an elephant ear backlit. It continues. Excellent pp to paint with the light.

Gabby, Steve showed me this,my response was something along the lines of OMG WOW back to the drawing board, must try harder!! For me a lesson from the master in how to make a hare image !!

Steve it still is one of my favourite images as it was instantly when I saw it late one night. Mate this lighting in the bkg is simply stunning, add in the light in those gorgeous ears ,then the usual superb framing post processing etc . I guess you know what the one only only thing I'd wish for here and that is lower pov. If it wasn't for that I'd guess this image would be all but perfect for me.

Steve, hugely inspiring, bless you for my sneak preview,ha you have no idea how hard I've pushed myself ,when given the chance, since seeing this. Simply this is the effect being around you good folks has on me,thank you for that.

I adore this frame Steve TFS

    take care mate

A beautiful portrait Steve! I love the dark vignette around the comp...is that natural or did you apply it...either way it really works well and makes the bunny pop!
