Just before the sun ducked behind a cloud bank, shortly before sunset, this Common Tern was catching some nice light at Nickerson. About two weeks ago. Full-frame, but I moved the bird back in the frame a bit for comp.
D500 500f4 + 1.4 TC, ISO 800, 1/2500s @ f/7.1 manual; Gitzo and Mongoose.
Nice banking pose and light. Really like the tiered background. Details look very good. I have shot there in that light many times. I always find that it is very hard to find a balance to get proper exposure on the whites of the bird but still retain details in the blacks. I would try and pull some more out of the cap of the birds head.
Sweet pose, BG, details, light, catchlight and position in the frame. Very nice. Agree with Isaac re: pulling some more detail out of the black cap. TFS
