Saw this young buck bedded down on a ridge one evening. Waited for him to get up and graze around. I would prefer him to be on the left but i feel this works since he is not looking out of the frame. Image adjustments in Lightroom. Hand held, full frame.

Hi John - It's a quirky pose and I don't think it would work as well with the buck on the left. I don't mind the sort of high key bg but I would darken the greens. Also remove the blues and cyans in the white of the buck. Finally, again you need more room below for the virtual feet and more. Here's a rp with the color adjustments. I would also go for more ss.

Hi John -- Always difficult to get proper exposure against the sky , you have done well though. Rachel's RP is taking it in the right direction . Lack of space at the foot is somewhat bothering me but nicely done overall .

    TFS !

Hi John, the pose is a bit awkward for me, but I do like the low POV. I'm OK with the deer off set to the right, but yet again just too little at the foot of the image. I can understand this happening with a fixed lens but with a zoom you can easily pull back to allow for final cropping. There is some colour fringing on the subject and I could well be wrong, but I wonder if this was over exposed, with the metering being thrown by the sky??? Agree with Rachel that you should have upped the ISO for a better SS.

Hi John, good suggestions given already...I love the white background for this scene...agree with a touch more room at the bottom edge too.

Hey Steve, i will get room for the virtual feet right one of these times. I overexposed this i purpose by 2 1/3 stops to give it a high key look. The sky had white clouds with no detail in them.

LOL , please John, it's not for me, if for yourself as the images would be a lot better for it.

Without seeing the Histogram for the Raw it's hard to tell, but if you exposed for the subject only an not worried about the BKG you could I feel have a better result s you could then 'Double' process. Just watch for any 'Chromatic aberration' when doing shots like this, easily corrected in LR converter.

Hi John i think a quite good attempt of a High Key image .....but the awkward pose of the Deer is not that great .
Reflecting your previous postings , i think you should shoot a bit wider and leave some space for the feet .
Color and tones do look quite ok for me in your OP , matter of taste if the greens need to be darker or not ....

I like the colours in the buck in the original but I see some greens in the white fur, the greens look a little pale to me, I am also guilty of not putting enough space at the base at times and have to agree a little more wouldhave been better.

    Dear John,

Thank you for sharing this image, I quite like the pose here and especially POV. Positioning the subject on the RHS of the frame also works for me. Unfortunately the lack of space at the bottom hurts this image tremendously. You probably know your subject but perhaps in your excitement you might be rushing to press the shutter? Please keep experimenting, but do take your time to observe the details in any given scene and in the future try avoid cutting off the feet

Have a great rest of the week! I am certainly looking forward to more images from you.

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
