I'm back from 2 weeks in Alaska including 5 nights at Silver Salmon Creek Lodge in Lake Clark N. P. for brown bears. I hope you like bears and cubs because I've got a ton of images.

Love the shot (wish I had some at ISO 800!!) you have some excellent detail in the fur. I like the OOF bear in the background too.
I can't help but feel the image is a bit bright, I get the impression it needs a little pop.

Thanks Jon. Most of the sows and cubs we saw were blonde. The weather in Alaska was atypical with bright sunshine and few clouds most of the time I was there so 20 plus hours of difficult light for photography each day.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

I like this bears fur, looks pretty fluffy. The grass in the mouth is nice. Good composition as well.

Hi Rachel -- Great to hear that and I am eager to see those Bear images ! This is a nice start with the subject having some lovely details inspite of the light which looks quite bright. Like those grass straws in its mouth . I am not sure abt the Bear in the BKG, for me it is not adding something significant in the frame. Also i would have liked some more space in the FG.

    TFS !

    Welcome back Rachel!

I am getting ready for those bear images you are promising us

This is one lovely frame and I enjoy the behavioural aspect ( foraging ), amplified by the presence of the second character in the BG.

Lovely detail and the colours are great, in terms of comp I think I would have loved a tad more space at the bottom.

Well exposed Rachel and nice PP work too, lovely textures and detail!

Wish you could take me with, I have not one bear image...

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Really nice frame Rachel, love the detail in the fur, colors and setting. The grass in the mouth is a great addition. I also like the second one in the back. My only critique is the same as Haseebs that I would like a bit more room on bottom but understand its ff. TFS

    Hello
nice shoots..for me it is a bit lighter. if the first bear will be a bit darker the attention will be there.

Hi Rachel I like the image but it needs more below and so shooting with a zoom you needed to pull back. A quick view on the screen would have illustrated the tightness of frame and so you could easily corrected this. Getting some more tone back into the grass would be good, as it would help provide more depth to the overall capture. Personally I would have like just the single cub in frame, as I find the OOF BKG cub slightly distracting, especially with the head in the grass.
