This is a courtship shot of cottontail rabbits, the buck (male) is below and the doe (female) is in the air.
What I've read is that the buck sprays the doe with urine and it is supposedly equivalent to us guys giving our wives or girlfriends a bouquet of roses.
I had watched them in the distance and had no idea why the one rabbit was jumping every time the other approached, but was happy to get this shot.
Bet you are happy to have got this shot Tim,don't think it matters about the head on the lower one it's bum that's doing the business, fantastic the way you have caught the airborne bunny, love this great shot.
Hi Tim -- great piece of information and a nice moment to captured to document the same. As far as image quality is concerned this appears to be only a record shot. I am not sure how much you have cropped here but appears to me as a big crop and all the details in the subject are lost . Did you applied Noise reduction as well , the image looks very smooth . A fine moment though .
Tim, one would never know this is a courtship ritual from looking at the pic. The light is fantastic, like the spot like effect of the one above. I like the curvature of the eye. Loi
A great behavioural shot here Tim! You caught the moment perfectly, and thanks for the explanation - for a moment I thought those drops were some 'other' bodily fluid
I think you overdid the noise reduction a tad, as the hare fur seems very smooth without fine detail?
Thanks everyone for your comments, yes it is more of a behavioral shot since I had never seen this before.
It happened while I was out shooting burrowing owls just before I left do to the bad light.
