    Default Juvenile Great Gray Owl

I finally got out and saw some Great Gray Owls in northern MN this weekend. This one i can tell is a first year Owl, the brown around the eyes is a good field mark. I wish I could have got closer on this perch. Canon 7D ll, Canon 100-400 ll 1/500 handheld, f6.3, 400 mm 1250 iso cropped to be more vertical, processed in lightroom.

I like the image very much, I feel had you gone much closer you would have elevated him a tad too much. Beautiful scene I like everything even though I cannot decide where his feet are! I am just wondering if a little more sharpening on the head would have been beneficial.

Hi Jonathan, thanks for the good words! It does look like it could use a little sharpening on this forum, I don't know why, but my images look a bit softer on here, than on my computer, or on my website. Take a look at the same image on my website here: http://www.mtsoutdoorsimages.com/Avi...s/i-S2qnv3f/X2

Lovely scene and owl but the owl 's head needs to be sharpened.

Hi Keith and Marina! Thanks for the comments! I don't know what the deal is with my images looking soft on this forum, they look good on my computer and on my website, see here: http://www.mtsoutdoorsimages.com/Avi...s/i-S2qnv3f/X2
What could I do to make them sharper here without them looking over sharpened on other places? Should I sharpen my images for this forum after I have resized and converted them?

Michael have looked on your website and even though the images are smaller they do look sharp, but like I said on my comment your post only looks like it could do with a little sharping.

Michael website images look in general sharper but I think a couple are a little soft. When you resize for 1200px do you then check the sharpening before saving as a jpeg or do you have the large TIFF and then resize it in the Save for Web option - do you use Bicubic Sharper if you are reducing size prior to saving as a smaller jpeg?
You could try Philip Perold's action http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ions-(for-free!)

Yay! I think I got it! I might have over sharpened a bit, but at least now I know how to compensate for the softening I was getting.
