Congrats on the new toy and on catching this nice looking Kestrel in flight. Great looking pose and details.
I find this one a bit dark so I took the liberty of editing your image. Hope you don't mind.
I increased the lights, and darks a little, in levels. I didn't change the color of the sky, this is just what happens when you increase exposure. Probably more the way it looked when taken. I also adjusted the comp to give more room in the front and less in the back. I also cleaned up the sharpening halo around the bird.
Remember to be about 1-1/3 stops over exposed when shooting a bird of this color flying in the sky. You will have better results with the RAW file but this gives you the general idea.
Well done and looking forward to more from you and the DO

Thank you David. When I revisited the shot a while after posting it I realised it was a bit dark (I reckoned just under a stop) but thought I would wait to see what people thought of the original. Thank you for your comments and the time for doing the edits, the've certainly given it a bit more zip.
Hi Mike,
You certainly got an excellent wing position here, and the little head turn was a massive bonus.
My first thoughts on the exposure and framing were exactly the same as Davids, and I like his RP.
Certainly no issue with that setup you have, lovely detail, especially with the crop. just need to get those shorties in close now!
Mike
A fine shot of this speedster. David's repost makes all the difference.
Mike very well done catching up with this one, looks like your new toy really does a good job.Agree Davids repost does just give it a lift, would be pleased if it was mine.
Keith.
