The 6400 mistake
Immature eagle hunting along the Susquehanna river in early morning. Handheld from a moving kayak in some choppy water so was really trying to keep the shutter speed up. Canon 5D4 canon 100-400II+1.4 extender. Converted in DPP,neat NR,resized and sharpened in PS. ISO 6400,f8@6400sec. Obviously did not need to be that high in ISO but was just trying to make something from the situation. Thanks for looking and any input.

If only my mistakes looked like this. Great flight position, beautiful fall background. The kayak is really paying off. Were you to the north of the island?

Great in flight shot. I love the fall bg and the lighting. I have done a lot of fly fishing out of kayaks and have a couple of ideas that might make it more stable for you. They make small side pontoons for kayaks that add stability. Also depending on how deep and what bottom you could bring a push pole, jam it into the bottom and tie up tight to it when you are in an area you want to shoot from.

Thanks guys.
Bill yes I go north of the island when they are not running water and also work the rocks down river a good ways.
John the one I have is made for standup fishing so it's pretty stable.

I'd never have guessed the ISO on this one if you hadn't mentioned it!
Fantastic calling pose, and the light is wonderful, especially given the BG colours.
Overall a top notch shot.

Joe,
When we were there on Saturday (along with more than 100 of our fellow photogs), I scanned down river with my field glasses, and was amazed to see how many eagles were sitting on the rocks, looking very much like your previous post. This in addition to the multitude that were hanging around the dam. Great work to use the kayak.

It may have been a mistake Joe, but what a beautiful result. Couldn't ask for a better setting and like the in flight calling pose. I can appreciate the effort put into getting this great image.

Killer flight frame Joe!! I love the hanging legs and the open beak as he comes screaming in.
Nice light angle and background also. I can't believe that it looks that good at ISO 6400!! Well done
