    Default Downy Woodpecker

Taken early morning a few days ago. Woodpeckers have been fairly elusive for me so I was pleased to capture this one before she spotted me. Shot from a monopod.

Hi John, beautiful bird, nice perch and background. Looking at the image I see it as a vertical. I don't think the right or left sides of the frame add anything to the image and would tend to draw ones eyes away from the bird and perch. Thank you for sharing.

Joe - Thank you for the feedback. That's why I am here, trying to improve and I think you are right. Not sure why I did not see it first but the bird and perch do work better in vertical.

I agree, the bird and detail on the bird looks real good. The BG takes my eye away from the bird.

I like the cropped version loosing some of the Bg and might even try to loose a little more to focus the viewer on that cracking little Woodpecker with it's lovely fluffed up feathers and relaxed look.
