Photographed this American Kestrel at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York a couple weeks back. I know this is not the conventional pose with wings raised or wings lowered all the way down but I liked the pose. Interested in hearing others thoughts. Bird is a bit warm colored due to the late evening light but I did not alter that at all.
Canon 7dii and Canon 500 f4 ii. ISO 640, F5, SS 1/6400, +1. Hand held
Converted in DPP 4. Auto White balance. In PS I added a bit to the left and took a little off the right. Did same for top and bottom to position bird in frame. Full frame as is. Sharpened, NR to background and raised the exposure a little as the fast shutter speed made the image a bit dark.
Looking at the thumbnail I prematurely thought "could use a better wing pose", but when I clicked on it I was surprised by how well it worked viewed larger. The flight path, which is angled steeply towards us, helped with that. I also like the well focused face set against the oof wing - it gives the image a 3D feel. Good one!
