A lot of people would have ignored this scene, or walked right passed it, for the sole reason that the subject is "just a gull". But regardless of the species, a beautiful scene is a beautiful scene! I worked this one for a while, going wide, going tight, horizontal, vertical...and I am sure glad I did.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/9, ISO 800, natural light, FF, no eye work!, deepened the blacks as exposing to the right had washed those out.

An artistic and evocative image Daniel---I'm with you on your comment about seagulls (and all the other common and local species like ducks and geese and blue herons,etc.). They all have as much potential for fine images as do the far away gannets and puffins and penguins.

I love this. Love it. Your photos are beautiful and this one is as well. The light is amazing. Do you add any saturation to this or this was as shot? Composition is perfect as well for me as was your choice to darken the blacks. So different from the typical gull image and congrats on recognizing the beauty in that scene.

Hi Dan, you are absolutely correct, regardless of the subject, you have to capture these scenes against those stunning colours and light. I really like the 'rough' outline of the rocks which are shaped in opposite directions. Definitely an opportunity well taken.

Lovely shot Dan! Did you go up into the 8,000 range with the WB?

    Hey guys, thanks!

I did warm up the WB quite a bit (not much saturation added) - not sure how high as far as a number goes, I just did it to taste and to about what I remember the scene feeling like.
