Early morning shot of a couple of American Avocets, the one on the left is sharp unfortunately the one on the right was a bit father back and OOF.

    Thanks for looking.

Pretty cool Tim. I think the comp makes up for the slightly OOF bird. Lovely dreamy pose with a great reflection. If the detail holds, a horizontal frame with the left sided bird may be an option.

    Well done

Wow Awesome shot. I always wanted to shoot Avocets in breeding Plumage with reflection...

You got two of them in a single image... Awesome one.

Hi Tim, great symmetry captured here, and you managed pretty good reflections too. The detail and sharpness on the LHS Avocet looks good, so what a pIty the other Avocet was not in the plane of focus/DOF.

Tim I can see the sleight loss of sharpness on the right bird that you pointed out but is does not take away anything from the viewers pleasure looking at this super shot.

    Tim:

Very nice composition, feel of calmness, colors.

I find when I have multiples in the frame, and can't get them all within the dof, that it works better visually to have the OOF bird, really OOF, so that it doesn't compete so much for our attention with the sharp subject, but rather acts as a repeating pattern element in the image. So, a few frames wide open on the left bird, letting the right one go further out of focus might have been interesting.

This is truly a personal taste thing, but something to try sometime.

    Cheers

Terrific image. Love seeing the 2 of them in their sleeping poses and the reflections. My question is if one is a little oof, why not take a few shots at this aperture/SS and then experiment. I see from your techs you were probably waiting for them to fly, but they were asleep. You had plenty of room with SS & ISO to get them both in focus from the looks of it.
