Love your crop and the beautiful colors.
I think the eye needs a bit more sharpening or perhaps the DOF is a slight issue?
I think an F stop of 9 or 10 would have made this image really shine. The pelican would be tack sharp and crisp throughout with that slight bit of extra DOF.
Your ISO was really low so you could have shot at ISO 800 and gotten that extra DOF that you needed.
It is still a beautiful image despite my observations,
    Gail

As perfect a pelican portrait you could hope for! I love the comp, colours, pose, processing. Nicely done.

Hi Gail, on this one I have to disagree with you completely, the eye is tack sharp and the feather details are nice also.

I like the crop and the pose and the background. Not sure if it is a difference in monitors or what, but I agree with Gail. I think the bird is not as sharp as it could be.

Funny I am very critical when it comes to sharpness and IQ and this one looks pretty sharp on my 4K NEC. If you are using an older display maybe a bit more sharpening would make it pop but I can tell the RAW was tack sharp here.

The perfect HA makes for a perfect profile in sweet light with trademark SoCal colors!

A classic pelican head shot with great colors and comp. I also felt, before reading the above, that a little more DOF would have helped in a few spots like the back of the head. Not a biggie; or maybe I need a new monitor.

Classic LaJolla Pelican shot Tim. I like the pose and the colors in this one along with the baby blue sky. I'm sure the RAW is sharp but some extra sharpening for web presentation would't hurt. Well done

As per all the suggestions I replaced with a re-do.

Much better Tim. I know that all the RAW images that you keep are sharp, it's just figuring out a good process to sharpen them for web presentation. The method I explained last night should work well for all of your web postings.

Hi Dave, I tried what you suggested but it was way to aggressive for the image, I came up with a different more subtle approach that worked well for this image.

    Thanks again -Tim

I am sorry. I patented this shot more than a decade ago. Please delete it :)
