This fellow was captured two weeks ago during "coffee hour" on a northern Michigan lake. It was 8:00am , and four non residents adults had flown in to socialize with the resident pair. They did the usual swimming, circling, bill dipping and then as is often the case, as the party broke up, they started going berserk, diving, rowing and other odd behaviors. I find it impossible to reliably capture them with the 600mm when pedestal mounted, because of the totally unpredictable action, so had a second rig ready to go.
D500 80-400 at 250mm. f/7.1 1/1250s handheld
Post: Selective sharpening, added sliver on canvas on left, crop from right.
The loon seems to have an expression indicating it is expecting some imminent extreme discomfort! Great capture I like the crop shape and I like the timing, the colours are very pleasing.
Very cool pose as they scramble and chase each other. I can feel the action. Details, colors and the comp look perfect. Well done

This one made me smile.
I love the outstretched foot and the topsy turvy wing position. the water action really gives a good feel for the birds antics.
I might consider toning down the yellowish vertical stripe above the head.
