Nice to get this close to a heron. Is it a crop? It feels as though it wants quite a bit of clockwise rotation. The line in the water near the top could be a clue, although water can be tricky. But even without the line, it feels like it's leaning too much. But if it isn't a crop you don't have room to rotate.

It looks nicely focused with good detail. I wonder if it's a bit on the brown side -- early light not withstanding. Color balance can be difficult to get "right" and is often a matter of choice.

Color is much improved! I can imagine the bird is just leaning a bit. One of the more difficult things about shooting birds against water is to keep the camera vertical. If you have time, with a zoom lens it is sometimes possible to zoom out and find a virtual horizon, then zoom back in (with re-focusing) for the shot.

    Hope to see more!

Nice shot.. I like the morning light on the birds head.. There are a three, what i think are reflections in the water just about its beak - a long line and 2 smaller dots/circles.. I would clone those out. There is also a small dot on the underside of the beak too, near the top park of its neck.

Good shot, Ann. What do you think about cleaning up the bird's beak?

Ann, I'm late to the party but will add my two cents worth. Your repost is much better. Agree with Anthony on the cloning of the brighter spots on the water. He looks a little crowded in the frame to me. I know you are trying to shot FF. I am trying to do that as well, but still tend to shoot a bit wider than I need to go, because I am so sloppy at lining (leveling) things up. The feathers on his beak don't worry me...and if you like them, leave them.

    Well done Ann!
