    Default Savanna Hawk Preening

From last week in Trinidad. This was one of my target birds for the trip. I was anticipating a flight shot, so I pushed the ISO further than I should have, with some resulting IQ loss. But I liked the pose, light and background. Had I known how long he would sit on that post, I would have shot some at a more appropriate setting for perched birds, but I feared he would take off the minute I took my eyes off him. And sure enough, when I finally decided to check my settings that's exactly what he did.

Nice composition nonetheless, Bill. I do not expect raptors to preen at all but apparently they do. Thanks for sharing this! :D

Murphy's Law of bird photography struck again eh! It's a beautiful hawk, I can see why it was a target species for you. The perch itself could be better IMO, but I love the BG and subject's preening pose.

Wow, love those tail feathers. The preening action really shows them off along with the colors on the right shoulder. The composition is good with the main weight on the right of the frame and the bird looking into the open area. Good BG. The only improvement would be the post.
