Default Small in the Frame X More or Less 100 + High-key.

Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, and I sat on this image for a bit before processing it, but for sure fits the "small in the frame" theme if you only consider the individuals rather than the flock as a whole. This is a full frame image of part of a flock of Bohemian Waxwings that frequented a local arboretum for a few days before all the many trees' fruits were stripped away.

A bit of an experiment really, but I thought it an interesting juxtaposition of the two trees with birds in them. I had to tweak my position left or right, and up or down, by mere inches to get the correct overlap that made me happiest. In this image there is about 100 birds...the whole flock was about four to five times that number.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/5.6, ISO 800, FF. I may tweak the image by cloning out the two tails in extreme upper right corner...

I like the juxtaposition concept, Daniel. I do wish the trees don't overlapped in the middle. But this is really neat. For some reasons, all the head angles for the birds in focus are pleasing to me.

    Daniel:

Certainly takes "small in the frame" to a new level with all the birds, but it works nicely for me. Yes to cloning out the tales. The high pixel density of the 7DII worked well here.

Nice job of moving to give the best overall image

    Cheers

The junta position gives a nice sense of balance to the image. Nicely exposed and good details. TFS.

    Hi Daniel,
Just my kind of image. It works quite well for small in the frame. I think they had size in mind, not numbers ;).
The high key also worked well. May be the two tails in the top right corner are a bit distracting but what could you do.
    Well done!

Certainly different kind of image Dan. We would usually move to get the back tree out ofshot.
    Like it.
Not had an eruption of these birds over here for ages. Great birds to photograph though.

I like the symmetry if I can call it that way...the OOF tree with the subject tree...like one is the reflection of the other. Nice one.

I like this Daniel. The OOF tree brings depth, and it looks similar to the front tree, which balances the frame very well IMO. The birds are close enough to see their beauty.

All good here Daniel. I like the balance between the in focus and out of focus birds.
500 Waxwings! Such things dreams are made of:)
