I was happy when this fella stopped by and took a small break at close range for the chance for me to create some portraits. Such a beautiful species, and added really photogenic variety to the Wood Ducks it was hanging out with.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/200s., f/7.1, ISO 800, natural light handheld, just about FF, minor specks in the water removed, darkened the forehead and bill via the burn tool to reveal more detail and colour, NR to the BG only.

Lovely portrait. I especially love this duck against that special BG.

    Very good portrait Daniel.

I really like the detail, light on the bird, and how it pops from the simple background.

    Thanks!

You captured the beauty and great detail, Daniel. The BG is equally as beautiful. Well done.

The water color and the soft light have set this Drake up for a beautiful portrait. Love the nice feather details and the soft colors. Well done Daniel
