I was fortunate to be able to keep this fella in the frame, with my elbows firmly planted in the ground, as it sped up to get from one body of water to another. Having said this, it ended up too far forward in the frame so I moved it back by adding some canvas which I borrowed from behind and then cropping to taste. It's a bit more than I usually like to do but the pose and surroundings were well worth the extra effort to improve on the image IMO.
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1250s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, cropped as detailed above, darkened the pupil and lightened the iris.
I love this Daniel. I know how fast these guys can move so well done on getting the shot.
Excellent PP and perfect running pose.
Love all that green BG. I might be tempted to clone out the 2 little white dots in front of bird but not a big issue.
Really beautiful shot.

Love the clarity and perfection in your images - this is well exposed, superb composition and I like the simplicity of the frame. So well presented and the colours are beautiful.
I often pop in to this forum to view and comment but have not posted in a while because I lacked the opportunity to capture new avian images. I hope to share a few frames I was lucky to grab in the Kruger Park recently.
This is wonderful Daniel! Tracking a sprinting shorebird when on the ground is quite tricky I have found :) I really like how the foreground blends to the background. I also quite like what is in the background just beyond the bird ... water? You did an excellent job of adding canvas ... I can not tell such work was done. Thank for posting this shot Daniel :)
Ross, the BG is actually small bushes and trees. The yellowlegs crossed the mudflats and I was pointing towards the small "forest" behind us if we look towards the river...
