Looking back on this one, I think I should have went to f/8, (still getting the hang of this camera), but I am still more than happy with the IQ I am getting with my 'new toy'

Thanks for looking, and all the advice on my last Arctic Tern image. Much appreciated and any advice received with thanks

Hi Will - this is very nice with lots of detail in both the blacks and the whites. Yes, you could have sacrificed a little ss for a bit more dof but not a deal breaker.

    Really excellent image!
Great textures and tones and feather detail.
I wish you had a bit more DOF to get the tip of the bill nice and sharp but otherwise no nits from me.

Will, can you read PDF's, if so let me know as I will send you Canon's - AI Servo AF Custom Function & ISO Speed Settings Guide for the MKIV which may help?

Hi Will, looks like you are getting to grips with your new camera, especially with regards to exposure. The finer plumage detail really shows up so well in this, and I do like the pose with the 'drooping' head. I feel at the distance you were, F/8 may not have helped with regards to more DOF on the beak.

Will you said you had issues with exposure ,would not have noticed with lots of detail you have got in the dark and light plumage, very nice portrait.

A wonderful portrait! Love the detail -- maybe a little sharpening on the beak would be something to try, but it doesn't bother me as is. I like that the bottom of the frame is white feathers. floating the head in the frame against the high key BG.

Hey William I used this same combination for quite a few years. I still kept my MarkIV because of the fact that it is such a good camera. Keep working this combination and you should wind up with lots of great stuff. This is a good-looking portrait with lots of great details and the exposure looks right on. Well done. Haven't been around in a while, did you cash in your 7D for the markIV?

Hi David, Thanks for the comments. Yes I traded the 7D Mk2, I wasn't happy with it, using it with f/4 500, but. I am more than happy with the 1D Mk4. I think it is more compatible with that lens. Maybe get a 1DX next year
