Default Advice on good point and shoot

A good friend has asked me for advice on a good point and shoot with good zoom capability. I know nothing about point and shoots and would love your recommendations.
Price is not an issue and he wants to learn to use manual with it. He wants to do landscape and portraits and the occasional moose or deer or other mammal.
    Thanks,
    Gail

    Gail,

I bought a Sony RX 100 iii about a year ago for a carry around camera and am really very happy with it. It sports all the controls of a DSLR, will shoot RAW and in addition to the rear EVF it has a pop-up EVF that can also display all shooting information. This latter feature is great for being able to use your head and hands to steady the shot. It has the equivalent of a 24-70 mm lens and overall I've found it to be a solid little camera. While I wouldn't say that it "drops" in your pocket, it certainly will be in a jacket or pants pocket.

I would second this recommendation. It has a large enough sensor so he can print relatively large prints, if he should decide to do so. The form factor is pleasing and should be excellent for the uses that you've specified.

How much zoom? And how important is camera size?
