Simply a beautiful bird, Karl. Like the detail and nice the beak just cleared his neck. Great look at those powerful talons.

You really had a wonderful opportunity with this handsome hawk and you made the most of it.
I find the vertical OOF branches distracting and would be tempted to clone them out.
Excellent eye level view. Good IQ on the bird.
This is a fine image but I definitely prefer the first image!

Excellent portrait with sharp details! Did yo blur the BG in post? it looks a bit unnatural especially around the bottom edge of the perch where the 2nd branch starts. it shows some blur mask has bleeding

    Thanks, Arash.
No I did not blur the background at all.
There was an in focus tiny branch going into the bird's body on the left and one OOF branch in front of the feet I worked on, to make it look invisible using some fancy footwork.

    Thanks Karl,

I think it's worth reworking in that area of the perch. I would def. avoid blurring anything in post, but I may use the burn tool and gently paint over the thicker OOF branches in the BG that have highlights

For me it would be too fiddly to do any burning on the bright branches in the BG. I'd just accept them as they are since it is the environment I suspect this hawk would be in.
Lovely sharp details Karl, I like it.
