    Default THEME: Mum........help!

    Attached Images Attached Images

Just back from a magic trip to Costa Rica, but before editing a heap of files I'd thought I get a May themed image in before closing.

One from the archives here from a Sth Luangwa 2011 trip, captured from a hippo hide dug into the bank of the Luangwa River. I posted an image back in '12, and this is another in the sequence.

    16.16hrs.
This young hippo wasn't at all happy with the attention it was receiving from some Ox-peckers and was making a hasty retreat back to the safety of mum and the river.

    D3 500f/4 VR 1/1600s f/5.6 ISO400. Almost F/F, curves, levels, mid pt adj-TK masking, ACR/PS CC '14.

    C & C most welcome

    Cheers
    Marc

I can see where this Hippo at such a young stage in it's life might not like the Ox-peckers attention. Is it a common event for Ox-peckers to pick insects off Hippos backs as they do the Ox? Beautiful light and great BG with the adult Hippos lounging in the river.

    Welcome back Marc

This is a beauty - love the action here, what dramatic retreat from the little hippo and the expression on his face says it all - very well captured!

I especially like the warmth of the scene, those vibrant colours, and the space you have given the subject to run into. The oxpeckers add a sense of urgency to the whole event.

Well processed and presented, I enjoyed viewing Marc, very much

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Lovely stuff Marc. Well processed and absolutely love the expression on the young Hippo's face. Oxpecker's add detail to a wonderful story told here.

Hi Marc - Welcome back and nice one for the theme. Nice pov, sharpness and dof.

Don't forget to give your thoughts on other images. I know it's hard to get back in the swing of things but we're short-handed around here with both Steve and Morkel away.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Brilliant image Marc, what beautiful light, contract, scene, dof, action, composition. How you got all those birds sharp? This is very cool.

Really great shot Marc. The hippo is placed in the most ideal spot within the frame IMO.
