Default Grab shot - White-tailed Eagle

Well, it is the Eagle making the "grab" on this occasion - the bait was submerged just in front of the talons - almost visible under the water. This is another shot from Norway, last May.

I'll be interested to get any views on the colour with this one as I particularly paid attention to reducing the blue saturation in DPP.

    Canon EOS 1D MkIV, EF 200-400 @ 316mm
    1/1250 sec @f/5.6 ISO 1250
Converted in DPP, adjustments in PS5 including straightening image, Levels and bringing out some more of the underwing shadows with Curves. NR with Dfine.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

Hi Gerald. Looks fine to me. Wouldn't know about the intricate colours bird wise though. If anything perhaps a tiny bit more "guts " . No big deal- fine image anyway.

Powerful image, Gerald. Very nice wing position and full talon stretch. I might bring a bit more detail out in the underside of wing. Possibly a little CW rotation, but fine as posted.

Hi Gerald, the best to date by far, in both terms of colour & position.

Just remember, open up the shadows to recover detail and you may start to introduce noise.

Very nice shot. Love the wing position and the crop is right on.

Gerald, for me it needs a little more room.
Otherwise I cannot fault it. Just a super action shot mate. Love it!

Wouldn't change a thing, except a little tight for me. Powerful image.

Thanks very much everyone - really appreciate your comments and guidance.

Pleasing to hear that I have gotten the colour balance correct - took a bit of back and forwards...

I lost some of the space around the bird in straightening the image - otherwise I might have made it a little more loose, but on the other hand I think the image can handle a tight - more dramatic - crop.

    Regards, Gerald

Excellent hunting pose with those "ready to snatch something" talons. Great look of concentration too. Techs look good - well exposed and sharp. I do feel that some of the feathers look a bit smoothed out due to the NR.
