I'm a big fan of bird portrait shots and always try and get one when ever I am able to come close enough. A couple weeks I posted an image of this same Stilt walking through a pond.

A portrait of my favourite bird!- which I am never liable to photograph anyway. Only seen them from iles off. Nice hint of gradation in the BG. I would like a bit more of something but that's just me again.
    Grand detail. Lovely shot.

Contrast of the black and white bird against that background looks spectacular.

    Lovely detailed portrait.

    Thanks for sharing.

You are a few days early...it is going to be the theme for March. Love this bird and the portrait you made of it. I bet in the RAW you can see yourself in the eye. How did you get so close? Very well done.

Hi Raybel, excellent exposure, and just love the colour of the BG. Whats even better is that we can see the reflection of the horizon in the eye.

Thank you all for the great comments. The Black-necked Stilt it's a very nice elegant bird in my eyes. It is very common here and a few photographers that I have gone out shooting with sometimes completely ignores them. They can be shy in some areas of the Island but not as much in others. With this specific bird I was already lying down in the ground photographing a few Plovers when it started to curiously walk close by me. I have gone to the same area and seen the Stilts and when I approach they all take off immediately. You just never know with them.

This really is top quality Ray, beautiful exposure on the blacks and whites complemented by that super b/g.

Lovely image, I like everything about it. Wonders how you got so close for a portrait? Thank you for sharing.

Super portrait of an elegant and photogenic bird. One of my favorite species, but I don't get to see them often. Very nicely done. My only nit is that you should have waited for the Portrait theme next month; you coulda been a contender.

Nice portrait. With these birds it's so important to get that red ring around the eye and you caught that nicely too.
