Today, we took our new foster rescue dog, Silas, to our pasture to play. Silas is a big, lovable doberman pinscher pup that loves to play with any kind of ball. Today, his game was soccer. But although I don't want to think that Silas might cheat after the recent NFL scandal, doesn't that soccer ball look just a little bit soft to you?

Methinks that has ceased to be a "ball" and has now become a chew toy! Haha!

    Thanks Christopher and Marina!

My wife, Linda, is involved with a group in Pennsylvania that rescues Doberman Pinschers (affectionately known as Dobies). Occasionally, Linda and I are asked to foster a dog, and we try to do that when we can, with two other Dobies that we have already rescued. But that has almost invariably proven to be a serious mistake; we can't let the Dobies that we foster go!

Silas has been no exception. He is a doll, thinly disguised as a Dobie! But a problem has been one of our other rescue dogs, Ruby. Ruby is about 5 years old now and is a very aggressive female alpha dog. Ruby thinks that she rules the world, and I don't have the hutzpah to disagree with her! So when Silas came into her world, Ruby tried to assert her dominance over him. But then a funny thing happened.

Ruby learned that Silas was a very sweet guy. They sniffed each other, tussled together, and then they actually learned to enjoy each other!

So it is, Silas is no longer just a soccer-loving rescue dog, but another special member of our family.

Beautiful dog! I can understand how you would not be able to let go of dogs you foster. Nice story.

Thanks, Akos. And so is Leila!

By the way, since Silas became a member of our family, he has become a close friend of our female Doberman, Ruby. They were together this morning on our deck, when this photo was taken.

    So you've seen her? :)
We were just talking with my wife about getting a male Rottie as well.
Just in love with the breed.
Incidentally in the dog school we attend every Wednesday there's an adorable female Dobie called Kag. She and Leila love each other. So good to see two dogs that are so misunderstood by many behaving well. :D
