    Default Snipe in habitat

I 've said a few times on this forum about not liking low angles and reflections too much. This picture shows partly why. One of the few times I turn the camera vertical, purely because it looks strange cutting a reflection in half. The result is an image with the subject small and not a lot of cropping choice.
Good enviro shot I suppose ! I am still striving to get my shots in a natural setting but its not always that easy. Hope you like

Unable to get out much at the moment like I would wish but have a few in the files to rework. Its nice indoors too.

I like all of it John. The reflection, the shooting angle and the included habitat. Beautiful bird and nice warm colors. I would evict the yellow C-shaped thing super-imposed on the reflection.

    Thanks Both
I have this intense desire before I slither off this blob in space , to get bird pics with "messy" backgrounds (or should I say "natural"), to look reasonable- or be accepted more in bird photography circles. Could be a hard job I reckon.

I share your appreciation for habitat shots, both have a place. You did well on this and I like the RP.

Hi John, I feel you are being hard on yourself, as there is nothing wrong with this angle and showing off a good reflection. Good angled pose, and the Snipe is separated nicely from the BG. Comp wise, I would maybe come in from the LHS a touch. We all strive for that magic BG, and its not always possible. Its fun finding locations that are a cut above the norm.

I think you are being a bit hard on yourself John!
I think this is very nice.
    The repost is better.
I think the vegetation in the BG is quite pretty and adds to the image.
You have a nice reflection( I really like the shiny halo around the reflection of the head ) and a good comp.
The bird is well separated from the BG. Nice to see this bird stretched nice and tall.
    Nice image,
    Gail

John, I find this image quite pleasing. Habitat colors are compatible with the bird (Amazing how often that happens ), the reflection is nice as is the pose of the bird. The only thing I'm wondering about is the contrast...would the entire image, or maybe just the background, benefit from lowing it a bit?
