Double Crested Cormorant
I know they are common but I still find them interesting in the right light. Canon 7DII 500f4+1.4 extender. ISO200,f7.1@ 2000sec

I like the wing position and the BG with waves. Details are not great through, they look coarse and lacking

Apparently I miss identified it and was just told it's a Great Cormorant because of the white cheek and heavy bill.
Thanks for the input Arash. Not sure if your talking the head as it is very course and almost fish scaled in appearance or the rest of the body?

Hi Joe,
The whole bird just doesn't look sharp to my eye, can you post a 100% crop from RAW to help us see what happened?

Here you go Arash 100% crop from RAW saved for web in PS to get under the 200k file limit size. Tearing apart the image now, some of the beading detail is there around the eye but I'm thinking the bird was just too far.

Hi Joe,
The RAW isn't as sharp as it can be but it isn't bad. Can you send me the RAW file ? I will work on it, I think it will come out better

I worked on the RAW I was able to recover some of the details.

Much sharper detail especially on top of the right wing. Did you pull those with adjustments in DDP or in PS or a mix? Arash thanks for taking the time.

Hi Joe,
I used exactly the same setting as the DPP4 guide. After resizing for web I applied smart sharpen 100,0.5 to the the bird only. no other adjustment

Arash I have been selective sharpening using NIK export sharpening after the resize but will give smart sharpen a try. Thanks again.
