Hey everyone!

This shot was taken with a 7D and 400mm f/5.6L @ f/7.1, 1/400 and ISO 400, with an external flash (not sure what the flash settings were, sorry...). It was about 5:30 in the evening according to the exif.

I was finishing up a productive few hours of shooting at the wildlife reserve near my house and this guy flitted onto a honeysuckle to check me out as I was leaving. I whipped the camera up and nabbed this shot :) I would really appreciate some constructive criticism on what I can do better, or what you would have done in the same situation. The feedback on my last shot was really helpful! Thank you!

Beautiful bird, beautifully captured. Congratulations on your quick reaction. Have you considered cropping out what I guess are stones on the left of the image. They grab the eye a bit.

Lovely catch!! Sharp, well processed, good tonalities, lovely perch!

I'd go in between the 2 crops. Leave the bottom and left alone, but take some of the empty space off the left, and maybe a little off the top. I'd clone out the tiny bit of another branch at the very bottom edge.

Do you have any more on the right, so the tail isn't cut? And a tiny bit more on the bottom so the branch isn't almost touching the edge?

Wonderful photo! I think I prefer the version that's not as cropped, but it could use a slight crop on the left. Good job getting the bird and plant in focus.

Nice image Cambell. I don't think I have seen one of those before.
I agree with Diane on something between the two crops.
