Superb classic pose. The perch with berries is wonderful. I wish my double glazed windows could be kept as clean, the sharpness/detail has suffered little. The background cloning (and blurring or NR) has left a number of artifacts in different places and all in all looks odd to my eyes. It is my understanding that such cloning should be disclosed when an image is presented in the Avian forum.

I'm guessing the removed birds is what Adrian is referring to regarding the background. That notwithstanding, the actual classic pose of the nutty along with the perch makes for a superb shot. I think taking a bit off the right would help the composition, but overall this is a shot I really like

    Thanks all.
One of my main problems with the garden setup is the sheer number of birds- especially tits. Its almost imposssible to isolate some birds. I must admit my de-titting could be better!

John...over the years you have made some of the best images I have seen...but sometimes your editing is not as good as your photography. Sometimes it may be better to leave things as seen in camera. I'm sure I'd still enjoy your pics:)

    Adrian
Not with a load of blurred blue/great tits in flight in the background you wouldn't ! - - or at leat not when its in a shot you will never be able to repeat - not at my age anyway.!
Do you never use the "clone" tool then ? If I still had the original I am sure you would have binned it. I have said time and time again I am a naturalist/photographer and I hate processing.

1/80th of a second?! That's impressive especially since it looks like he's on the move with that left foot.

I love the your composition here John and the classic pose of the Nuthatch. I would never have picked it being photographed through a double glazed window!!
I would just remove the small isolated twig on the right hand side. Well taken!

    John

I hardly ever use the clone tool. I do not object to anyone including myself using the clone tool and nor have I suggested it should not be used. In fact I have no objections to any tool being used on any photograph that has been made; it is the makers photograph and they should be able to do what ever they wish with their own property and display/publish it if that is their wish. However, when one goes beyond standard processing such that elements in an image have been added or removed then there is a moral/ethical duty to make such disclosure when published and I think there are good reasons for this IMHO. Of course if no disclosure is made no law is broken (except where one may be required to make disclosure under contract) so disclosure or non disclosure is in general an integrity/ethics issue. I accept that there are blurred lines in the issues raised but common sense is a good determining factor when considering integrity/ethics.

I know you hate processing but sadly it is now one half of photography, which I for one, have a love hate relationship with:(

Nice to see some more of your great work John; your absence from the forum for short while had me wondering if you were on vacation on the Cote d'Azur or similar hot spot. Great capture through double-glazing, wonderful comp as usual, TFS. Regards, Ian

In my book this is a beautiful image, John. The pose, perch, light and dark BG all combine marvelously. I would never have guessed it was through a double-glazed window. I don't have any problem with the BG, although a very slight blur applied to it might smooth it out. And I agree with John about removing the cut twig on the right. But I'd love to have this one in my files.

Beautiful shot! Lovely pose and perch. The bird really stands against the dark BG. TFS
