    Default Grey Fantail lift-off.

Another capture at my garden pool, Grey Fantail, 11 March 2014. I regret no eye contact - the bird was watching where it was going - I hope the unusual dorsal view makes up for this shortcoming.

Canon 5DIII + 300 mm f/2.8L II + 1.4x III extender, three 600EX-RT flashes, RS-80N3 remote shutter release, Gitzo 3532LS tripod, Kirkphoto King Cobra gimbal, sail canvas background.

Pre-set manual focus, manual camera settings, f/14, 1/200 sec, ISO 200, 1/8 flash power all units.

Processed in DPP4: adjust WB, gamma, shadows, NR, sharpen, RAW-TIFF. PS Elements: select bird, background NR to reduce file size, remove two flash highlights from eye, minor cloning in background, crop, downsize, sharpen bird, TIFF-JPEG.

Thanks for looking, critical feedback welcome.

Hi Ian, excellent use of flash. I wouldn't have known had you not said so. Yes, the fan tail and wing position made this image worthwhile despite the lack of eye contact. TFS. Loi

Another good action shot from the pool Ian. I still feel a little something in the the background would make it "gel" a little more. Still fine work.

Yes, a better head angle would have been out of this world, but I'm highly enjoying looking at those wings and especially the curving tail. I do wish the darker area behind the subject was not there though.

Awesome shot of this bird's wings and tail and lovely detail. Unfortunately as you say no eye-contact. Hope you have more opportunities!
