I found this bird on the rocks along the southern shore of Acadia National Park in Maine last week. At first I thought it was a sandpiper and then perhaps a Yellowleg. Please help identify this bird.

You are in the right family of bird with the shorebirds. It's a dowitcher, and going by location (thank you for including that) likely a Short-billed Dowitcher. The reddish wash on the chest is the breeding plumage washing away and faded (a worn adult probably starting to molt into winter plumage).
