Default 200-400 canon full frame or MarkIV

Are there any thoughts as to whether it is better to use the mark IV rather than a full frame camera and cropping in order to get a greater effective reach?

The full frame 1DX is a stellar combination with the 200-400 w/1.4x. I suggest you crop in camera to make the most of the overall composition. It is not about the size of the subject within the frame.

If you think you will constantly need focal length greater than 560 mm, get a 500 or 600 instead.

When you say crop in camera, do you mean move closer or crop in photoshop?

Agree you have to specify what you are referring to. Sensor size has nothing to do with "reach".

That depends on which full frame camera and also how much cropping you do.

For Example, if i shoot with 1DX and crop about say 10-20% it may give me almost same quality as 1dV without cropping, sure the pixel will be different[resolution], but resolution is not everything there, i shoot sports[soccer] with 1D2n and 1D3 in the past and 1DX nowadays since 1 year and i do crop with all 3 cameras, and at the end my 1DX cropped shots are always superior than my 1D2n/1D3 shots, so i will go with 200-400 on 1DX any day.
