This juvi loon was out cruising around early when I put my boat in last weekend. Very dark still, so flash as main light. I did like the subtle colors and textures in the water.

    Advice and comments always appreciated.

The first thing that I thought when I opened this is "Flashed". Tastefully and well done, though, it's just not my most favorite light. (Personal taste being expressed here only!) The wake in front of the bird and the sublties in the water are wonderful.

    Grace:

Thanks for the honest input. I have toned down the highlights on the bird only to reduce the 'flashed' effect. A balancing act to keep it from going too dull.

I have so many standard loon shots, always looking for something a bit different.

    Cheers

    Hi Randy

Another stunning image. I prefer the toned down repost to the original

Randy, Such a subtle change, but it looks much more natural to me and I love it.

Randy, I like the shot with all the feather detail. Having shot these guys this summer, I believe flash is useful to really see these birds in their true glory. So difficult to get the whites with that kind of detail without flash. It has its place. Love the water droplets and the slit green in the water. Nice job.

Hi Randy. Pin sharp and great contour and colors in the water. The RP looks much more natural; my personal preference. I enjoyed this image. Beautifully done.

Beautiful bird and IQ. I'd probably try toning down the highlights a bit more. The water is absolutely gorgeous though.

Thanks everyone for the additional comments. Much appreciated.

I am rethinking my handling of flash pictures, and will try to refine my post processing further.

    Cheers
