Default EF 600isL mk11 camera question

I have just orderd one and was wondering if it will focus faster with my 1dmk3 owing to the higher voltage or 5dmk3 owing to the new focus system.

The servo drive is faster in general with 1D but that is one of the many factors in AF performance. 1D3 is an obsolete camera, its AF is overall inferior to that of 5D3 so overall it's not a good choice. IMO If you buy a $13,000 lens you should mate it a camera body worthy of this lens such as a 1DX or a 1D4 to take full advantage of the new AF hardware in the lens.

On your budget, I'd definitely go for the 5D3 over the 1D3; the AF is far superior.

Well, how does your lens perform with your 5D MkIII? If it's not good enough, then you have three bodies to sell when you upgrade to the 1DX.

Well my lens came and there is next to no diffrence that i can see in AF speed between the 5dmkIII and the 1dmkIII so i guess the low voltage of the 5d mkIII is not a disadvantage against the older 1d mkIII .

I can only guess the Advanced new AF goes some way to increase the AF speed with the lower voltage.
perhapes i will try a 1dx but that will have to be next year.

I'm always interested in this sort of conversation. I have the new 600 and the 5D Mk III, and wonder if a 1DX would improve things for me enough to invest in one. At this point I'll probably wait till the next version comes out, knowing that could be a while.

I'm not really sure how to assess "AF speed" -- what bugs me, presumably with the camera body, is that the AF drifts off a bird in flight seemingly without reason. Is that a function of sluggish AF speed? It seems to lock on to still subjects fast enough, and usually acquires a BIF reasonably fast, but not always. Many parameters to fool with and I keep trying tweaks. Maybe I'm not set up optimally, but I've read Arash's e-book and many other pieces of information and think I'm doing as much as can be done.

I just pointed at a near subject then onto the horizon did this sevral times then swopped the camera over and did it again the feeling i got was that it was so close in it was like using the same camera.

Well now iv had a good chance to try the lens with the 5dmkIII and haveing read more about the 1dx I decided to get one ( the wife wont devorce me she said ) I do really like the 5d but it bugs me that there is a camera that has a faster responce .

In the UK we rarely get a second chance and every bit of speed will help.
