Hi Charlie, a big welcome to BPN, and to the avian forum. A great place to learn and share your work. A great subject to be dropping by in your back yard. Good exposure on this fellow, especially the blacks, and I like the feeding pose. Comp wise, I would maybe take a bit off the top, and tone down the brighter parts of flowers below the tail.
Looking forward to more, and remember to participate on other members images too.

Welcome to BPN!
Good points from Stuart. A fairly busy image with lots of detail. The bird does stand out pretty well however. I like the intense stare of the bird. Well exposed.
If he is a regular visitor, perhaps you can try a set up which provides for a somewhat simpler BG.
Look forward to more posts.
Cheers
Randy
