Photographed this jumping Red Hartebeest in Kgalagadi in december 2005 at Bedinkt .A small herd arrived at the waterhole and went mad , i think because of strong winds that were quite common at that time.

50 % crop of FF i would have liked to go tighter in the frame ,was not possible due to loss of IQ.Not sure about the yellows in the image, WDYT?
    Processed in DPP and PS

Hope you like it , C&C welcome as always .

Nice pose and action captured, I would lighten the shadows on the face to pull more detail there.

Hi Andreas - nice action captured and the kicked up dust adds a lot. Unfortunately, for me this does not have the IQ or sharpness of your usual posts, probably due to the large crop. I would agree with your self-assessment that the yellows need to be desaturated a bit.

Hi Andreas, for a 50% crop I think you have more than enough IQ, detail form & structure. Definitely reducing the yellow, balance the colours out and then using a Red channel layer you will, I think get a hint more definition within the subject. The arched back and plumes of dust add to the scene. If you think it would help happy to RP, but your PS skills will interpret my suggestions I'm sure.

Hi Andreas, would be good to get other views on this, especially people like Dumay who's out in the field, or Grant, but he is out & about as I think their judgement on colour would be beneficial, or indeed Morkel. Knowing the way/direction you were going I have gone the other, just as a comparison, not that it is right, but this was quickly done on the laptop since your RP. Also interesting to see the detail & structure of the HB between the two posts. As I say, it would be good to get other thoughts before adjusting & creating another image, WDYT?

    cheers

    Hey Steve,
thanks for your work.I am not sure whether mine or yours is closer to natural conditions in Kgalagadi at 8 am in Dec.
So best bet is wait for Morkel to tell us.For me it is just too long ago ,that i have been there.

Sorry for being late to this one!
I love these guys - always up for doing something quirky as this shot shows.

Light at 8am in the Kgalagadi can be quite hard already (but still shootable), particularly in summer. That said it can lead to a almost washed-out look which I normally beef up with some vibrance in PP, so I do like your OP for the vibrant colours. Perhaps an ideal representation is somewhere between that and Steve's repost?

    Hi Andreas,
I like the detail, composition and the posture you captured, but as Morkel has mentioned, the light at 8am is already very harsh in the Kalahari, so you have done well.
    TFS and best wishes,
    Mark.

Thanks Tom,Mark and Morkel for your feedback.
It is so funny to get so many different options and opinions ,about just a little bit of color.

    Anyway very interesting
