Great detail in a beautiful bird. With this kind of detail, can see where its name came from. Maybe a little too big in frame.
The details and colours look ideal, perch and background looks good, pose not bad either! Nice shot well done.
Green on Green on Green.I really like this. You have some special effects with the gnarled old feet on the gnarled old branch. You might be able to dampen that shaft of highlight on the crown if you think its worth it.Well done.
This is one of your best images, Colin. The subject is interesting and he gave you perfect eye contact. I could see a slightly wider crop, but it's fine as presented.
I'm curious why you were at f/8 when you could have been at either f/5.6 or f/6.3 (I'm not sure what the max aperture at 420 on that lens is but it's at least 2/3 stop faster than what you selected.
That would have given you better bokeh AND saved you some noise, ultimately resulting in a sharper/cleaner image. But a very fine result nonetheless!
Hi Colin, I like your image. I think the bird looks great, nice work. The background could be smoother but difficult in a natural setting. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the encouraging comments. The bird was not posing, continually moving around, I just managed a shot with good head turn.
As for f8, I was quite close, about 3 meters, so tried for good DOF.
Ian, I had already toned down the crown.
