I thought of trying out still life and here is one for this week's theme. Setup the garlic on a white base and background. Used side light and bounce flash to get the shadow. Settings were 1/10 sec at f/4, ISO 100. Converted to b&w and blended with a DAP version. Adjusted for levels and selective colors. Hope you like it. All C&C will be appreciated.

I like what you did in processing the image but I am not real excited by the composition. The three bulbs are just in a straight line. I keep feeling like I would like to see a third dimension (some depth) to the comp.

Hi Indranil, I like your effect but the image needs a bit of pop.IMO you might try a contrast adj. to see if that has some effect. It could also use a bit more room on the right. Good effort!

Indranil, This image will probably been seen differently by all. I happen to like the subtle tones, shading and delicate look to the image. I also like the lighting. You could add a slight curve adj. to the BG bit I wouldn't add it to the bulbs. My only thought as I look at it is I wish that the garlic was a bit lower in the frame and a tiny bit more room on the right. I love the effect-Very well done.

I like this a lot! The treatment looks like a drawing and I think the subtle, softness adds to that feeling. The only thing that I would change is to maybe straighten it a bit. I think the horizontal line across the back is a bit too low on the right.

Thanks for all the comments. I agree, with still life being subjective, the opinions will vary. But the technical aspects can always be improved. Here is a repost with fixing some of the issues as highlighted... rotation, more room on the right, moving the subject down and a bit more of contrast and depth....

Indranil, This looks great to me. I do still like the "softness" and unique look of the first one. Very subjective.

Indranil, very nice treatment! Definitely looks like a pencil drawing. Both the original post and repost are good. Personally I think I would prefer the composition of the repost without the extra contrast. Just my opinion!

love the soft tones....for ME the repost is a bit harsh, but do like the
wee bit extra on the right.

The softer, what I will call the horizon line, in #1 is best effect

Agree with Dave here. I like the softness of the first one, but I like the room on right and top and also the straightening of the second. And I would really like that combination hanging on my wall! :D

Had a brainstorm.....just another pp idea. Tone thew image a bit, quick mask(sloppily done) the garlics
and apply a peach/yellow gradient. Off color, but has a certain appeal I think

Indranil, I vote for your final repost. You brought together the best of both images for a real show stopper IMO. Excellent final repost! I also like Dave's version w/ a golden like glow.
