    Default Antiqued Bird

This is a yellow-rumped warbler changing color, last spring. I followed a tutorial I found online to make an image look old, color-wise, but it didn't go far enough and was too yellow. I added 3 textures and and matted it with an "antique" matte from PhotoFrame, 2 textures over the matte also.

    Hi Judy,

I love what you did with this one. It looks great as an antique photograph. Well done!

Judy, I think that the framing and the pose are great. The perch is lovely but seems a bit large for the bird. The aging looks great!!

Judy, I love the pose and the textures you created. It really does look like an old photo. I think I would have preferred seeing the perch extend beyond the oval to the frame (maybe lighter but visible). Nice job.:)

Nice antiquing job Judy, I like the look you got. The oval mat is very nice and the textures work really well. For your reference, Christopher's tutorial is posted in the workflow sticky. Very nice!

Beautiful work, Judy! Excellent toning and aged look, and I love the subject and the antique, oval mat. I'd be proud to call this mine! :)

Thanks to everyone for your comments! Kerry, I had read Christopher's excellent workflow. I looked at it again and my workflow is about the same. I didn't to add in my description that I used one texture in multiply blend twice, with Levels on one and I used Levels and only applied it in certain places to the whole image. I used hue/sat adjustment layer on the bird and on the whole image as it looked too red after saving it. I also used a layer mask on 2 texture layers to remove half or more of the effect from the bird and some off of the frame.

Thanks Cheryl! I thought I'd just try to make this one really look like an old photo so I didn't think about having the branch show through. Good suggestion for future framed subjects!

Congratulations on your win. Very nicely done. The tones are soft and gentle to go with the fluffy bird. The oval frame adds even more to that old look.
