    Default "Beating The Storm"

    “Beating The Storm”

This little guy was in a big hurry, trying to get away from an in bound thunder storm, early one morning at Estero Beach, in Fort Myers Florida. He was painted with a Nikon D200, using a Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/4D IF-ED lens , and a Nikkor 1.4 T/C

    Image solution:
    focal length @ 765mm / exposure mode @ aperture priority / in camera matrix metering / ISO @ 500 / 1/2000sec. - f/8 / white balance @ cloudy / AF - mode @ dynamic range, auto - continuous / color space @ sRGB /lighting solution - no speedlight, ambient light / exposure comp @ -0.3EV / tone comp @ +2 degrees / hue adjustment @ +2 degrees / saturation factor @ +2 degrees / support platform - no tripod, hand held, flat on belly /

    Comments greatly appreciated…

Gus, Nice details and wingspan. I think you did a nice job w/ this. The vertical crop is different.

HI Gus - agree with Al on the whites - like the wingspan and the vertical crop.

The image is well done. I love it as a VERT. Please let me know the exact date that the photograph was made, the time, and the exact location in the lagoon (as best you can with the latter). This is a godwit, but the species should amaze everyone. It is the European race of Bar-tailed Godwit, extremely rare anywhere on the east coast of orth America and I believe, a mega-rarity in Florida.

From Pranty's A Birder's Guide to Florida the status of this species is accidental: Represents an exceptional occurence that might not be repeated again for decades; there are usually fewer then 5 records.

    Congratulations Gus!!! Cool! And amazing.
