Quite the melodious fella, and virtually non-stop too. After a test run with the audio and seeing that it was quite responsive I quickly made an impromptu setup with a fallen branch found along the trail against a suitable background. Very vocal...and beautiful in its' drabbish pluamge!!

Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/640s., f/6.3, ISO 400 (metered off branch and histogram checked), natural light, handheld, small crop for comp (~85% FF), minor eye-doctor work.

Wonderful subject, nicely placed against that colorful background. I'm not crazy about the oof parts of the perch. But the singing pose is superb.

Nice singing pose, since this was a set-up, I may have tried to put the perch Horizontal in the frame.

Luckily I was able to find and use another perch after this.... This was the most dynamic pose for the theme though!

I love the eye work. It is perfect. Agree with the others re:perch.
Great siging pose though and I can understand why it trumps the perch!
    Lovely BG as well,
    Gail

Daniel - great singing pose and nice bokeh here. There's a very light line from the body to the leg which may be a feather but it keeps catching my eye. Might be worthwhile to remove it.

I like the wide open beak here. Very nice for a quick creation to bring it eye level. TFS Daniel.

Great the way some birds reaction to playback, this fellow obviously very responsive. Lots of life in this one, certainly in full song, sharp, great eye clarity, light is perfect and ever so smooth backdrop. As mentioned a shame about the foreground oof perch, but the quality of the main subject holds my attention strongly anyway

I also prefer the shots we took with the other perch, but this shot is definitely the one into which the bird was singing with the most intensity.

I still believe he was mad at you

Hi Dan, you can just feel the effort this little guy is putting into his singing - great pose with the open beak. I like the placement and BG too.

Excellent shot. The singing pose is just fantastic, lovely backgorund, excellent detail, and very nice light.
    Well done.
